SHOOTING SPARX
Sparx in the City kick-off, Thursday, June 7
Curious, eccentric and colorful people coming up to you while you're in downtown Cleveland? That's why a lot of folks refuse to go downtown in the first place! But Sparx in the City is different, a series of arts-and-entertainment impromptus along selected streets and intersections throughout the warm-weather months.
All activities are free, and some are audience-participation in nature. The opening of Sparx flies from 6:30-8:30 today along booming East 4th Street. This Happy Hour special includes stilt-walkers, a juggler, breakdancing by the 216 Beatriders, the Latin-dance stylings of Cleveland Clinic urologist Jeannette "Dr. Tango" Potts, and eclectic quartet Lost State of Franklin.
There are also Friday lunchtime Sparx events; the one on June 8 happens at the Star Plaza from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and previews Parade the Circle Puppets, along with steel drumming, juggling and stilting. For a full schedule of events, click here.
Dr. Tango dances at the Sparx kick off on East 4th Street with her special guest, Jorge Niedas , of Tango 21 in Chicago.
